Winter & Spring Programme

Annual Luncheon at Rogerthorpe Manor

We have decided to have a change of venue this year and will be holding our luncheon at Rogerthorpe Manor and this will cost £17 per Person for a four course meal including coffee and mints.

A deposit of £7 per person is required which should be forwarded to Howard Johnson (tel 01302 771136) by no later than the 31st January.

We will assemble at 12.30pm for lunch at 1pm.

Rogerthorpe Manor is half a mile out of Badsworth towards Thorpe Audlin

Autumn and Winter Colour in the Garden

 

Ken Green, who comes from Chorley, will give this presentation which will consist of an illustration into the use of foliage, bark and texture as well as flowering plants to brighten up the garden during the darker months of the year.

Ken will bring plants for sale

Helmsley Walled Garden

 

Paul Radcliffe, Head Gardener at Helmsley, will be giving a presentation on the restoration of the walled garden, which some of you may have heard of and seen on TV.

There was a lot of damage earlier in the year due to the floods and they have had a considerable amount of work to do to restore the gardens.

Paul will bring plants for sale

Gardener's Question Time and Bulb Display

 

We will be holding our regular GQT so please bring your horticultural problems to the meeting so that our group of experts (the members) can help solve them.

There will be a bulb competition and the categories are as follows:-

 

a)     Arrangement of cut flowers grown by the exhibitor

b)     A Pot of bulbous plants

c)      Three specimen narcissi, named varieties, grown by the exhibitor and displayed in a wine bottle

d)     One pot of a house plant

Annual Plant Sale, Doncaster Institute for the Deaf 2pm to 4pm

 

As usual our annual plant sale is held in Doncaster and we need as many members as possible to book up a table or share one.

Full details are available from Trevor Walton.

Volunteers are required for the tombola and the door etc. please contact a committee member for details.

Doors open for stallholders at 12noon with the public allowed in from 2pm.

 

If you can't manage a table then please come and support us on the day, we'd be pleased to see you.

All Meetings are at the Lawson Hut, Badsworth at 2.pm for 2.30 unless stated.

Badsworth is 9 miles south of Wakefield and 6 mile North of the A1 on the A638.

The Lawson Hut is at the end of the village on the Left if coming from the A638
