I am doing family history and someone said that they thought there might be a memorial in the church in Badsworth to a Farrer. Or it could be a Smyth. Can anyone please help me with this as I live in Australia which makes it hard to "pop in" and have a look.
Thanks,
Maureen

Hi, I didn't know we had a website! Fantastic. I want to moan... is anyone else upset that we have to jump through hoops re planning rules to keep everything looking nice in the village then get horrid sticky black stuff poured all over the pavements? Maybe I'm just having a bad day.....
***************************************************************
Webmaster - Glad you found us and hope you find the site interesting. The Parish Council have been trying to get the footpaths repaired for over 3 years (after complaints raised during the formulation of the Village Plan) with little or no success - all down to WMD "Financial constraints." The "Slurry Seal" appears to have been the only option. At least there is some consistancy in the surfaces and at the moment no cracks and hollows to trip over.
We will have to wait and see how the surface bears up to use.

Anyone else in Badsworth experience today's 1.00 am earthquake? Didn't see anyone turn any lights on or go outside in our neck of the woods on Back Lane. Anyhow, the main thing is that I hope everyone's ok and there's no structural damage reported.

It's Getting Bigger? "The Green Hut!!, keep an eye on things, after many years of cramped storage space, we have finally started to extend the "Hut" by some 2.5m, this will give more useable internal area. Remember the "Hut" as been serving the Badsworth Village since 1921, and is still going strong. As anyone got any photo's of the early days?

Webmaster: Thanks for the info Warwick. Any photos would be gratefully received. Contact Warwick direct or webmaster on e.mail address on the home page (barrys.)

We have been living in Malaysia for the past 9 months. We have a house in Badsworth and are looking forward to coming back at Christmas. The website is great as it keeps us up to date with what is happening in the village and is a nice reminder of home.

I wondered who was logging on from Malaysia, it appeared a few weeks ago on the site counter - hope you enjoy your Christmas here with us. Very cold just now!

Came across the site while searching for old local photos, lived in Badsworth from 4 years old till getting wed at 21 Ilived in the Church View cottage on the Main Street and worked at Glebe Farm for Frank Brabbs, when it got pulled down I moved to High Farm on Main Street. I remember at school being about 10 years old, that would make it 1958,when Mrs Horne was the Headmistress, we did a poulation count of the entire village I always remember the total, it was 325 people, how times have changed, I have few old photos from the 60s, I,ll dig them out and send them on, I now live in Scarborough but regularly travel back to my family in Upton, but always look on Badsworth as my true home.

************************************************************
Webmaster: Thank you for your contribution Mick and I look forward to receiving your pictures, I am sure there are some people in the village who will remember you.
Any info you may have on the content of pictures you send would be helpful
Please send them to barrys.jans@virgin.net

In July we entered the scarecrow competition and were suprised to be awarded the first prize in the face of stiff opposition. We claimed our prize of a meal for two at Rogerthorpe Manor and went with a party of friends and enjoyed a most convivial evening.I would like to thank Mr Metcalf for donating the prize. His staff for the excellent food and service. The village gala day was a great success and every one involved deserve a big pat on the back thanks again to all concerned Ken and Kathryn Palmer

Webmaster: Thank you for your comments and we are pleased you enjoyed your evening. You will of course be handicapped for next year's event - nothing less than the QE2 will suffice!

This is a message from a very good friend of your Chairman Barrie Slinger. I live in a village called Loughton in Essex and we don't have anything like your wonderful website. P.S. this will cost you a large Gin & Tonic next time i see you Barrie

Excellent and informative site. The problem of not being picked up by search engines may have something to do with your "meta tags", just a thought from a rank amateur.
I was in your project to obtain a new village hall and the huge cost involved. I am involved in a group in Ackworth trying to get new sporting facilites, we are currently looking at modular buildings which can be clad to fit the environment and tend to be cheaper and more convenient. I wondered if something like that would be suitable for Badsworth.
Good luck.
*****************************************************************
Webmaster - Thank you for your comments I will pass on the information re the buildings to the relevant parties.
I believe there is something in the "Meta Tags" but I have been informed that the system we use (again rank amateurs) is an IK community website system and that could be a problem.
We are now on the Wakefield District Community webste (www.wdco.org) and our "What's on" entry is linked to our main site.

Julie:
Thanks for your comments, they are very valid.
We do try and promote the website wherever possible but we are having problems getting Google (or in fact any of the search engines) to pick up and list.I believe this is something to do with the format of the site - very easy for amateurs like us to manage!
As requested we have not posted your comments but would be pleased to, if you wish, as we may get some assistance on the "Technical aspects"

What a excellent history of the Badsworth Hunt - the Hunt has tried for 285 years to be a credit to our namesake, the village of BADSWORTH.

Anyone who has a comment to make on the police safe scheme,or any other item of council activity is always welcome at the monthly council meeting where there is the chance to change things. The meetings are at 7.30 every third Tuesday and the first half hour is normally a discussion with the police on their activities of the month, local crimes and policing proposals for next month. It is very rare to have anybody attend other than council members. The district councillor, Alan is normally also present between 7 and 7.45. Please come and have your say.

Regarding Parish Council Minute 231: If the Safe Scheme time is really going to be spent on routine traffic policing then I wonder if it is worth continuing with the scheme at all.

We shall submit your observation to the Parish Council and request the councillors' advice as to how they would like to deal with this and future queries which are raised on the web-site.

Isn't the village in the diocese of WAKEFIELD?

WEBMASTER:-
The parish has spent most of its time in the Diocese of York but as you correctly point out, the modern parish is in the Diocese of Wakefield-the text has been corrected.
Thank you.
